Full Stack Developer
Ship a whole feature alone — screen, API, database, deploy
- Fresher (India)
- ₹4 – 8 LPA
- Demand
What it is
A full stack developer owns a feature end to end. This is the most common first job in Indian startups, agencies and service companies, because one person who can do both sides is cheaper and faster than two.
What you actually do all day
- 1Take a feature from idea to deployed and working
- 2Switch between UI work and server work daily
- 3Handle deployment, domains, SSL and basic DevOps
- 4Talk directly to the client or product owner
Core tech stack
Pick one stack
- MERN
- Django + React
- Spring Boot + React
Always needed
- Git
- REST APIs
- SQL
- Linux basics
Deploy
- Docker
- Vercel
- Render
- AWS EC2
Reality check: “Full stack” can mean “expected to do everything” — guard your depth in at least one layer.
Good fit if: You get bored doing one layer and like owning the whole thing.
Your first step
Build one real product people can sign up for — auth, payments, admin panel — and keep it live.
The big picture
How web development actually works
Understand this one picture and every developer job title makes sense.
- 01
The browser
What the user sees: pages, buttons, forms. HTML for structure, CSS for looks, JavaScript for behaviour.
Frontend Developer - 02
The request
Click “Login” and the browser sends an HTTP request over the internet to a server, carrying your data.
APIs & HTTP - 03
The server
Code running on a machine somewhere. It checks rules, verifies the password, decides what to send back.
Backend Developer - 04
The database
Where the data actually lives. The server asks it questions in SQL and gets rows of answers back.
DBA / Data roles
One login, start to finish — about 200 milliseconds
- 1You type your password and hit enter
- 2The frontend validates the form and sends it as an API request
- 3The backend hashes the password and compares it
- 4The database returns your user row
- 5The backend signs a token and replies
- 6The frontend stores it and renders your dashboard
Comparison
Frontend vs Backend vs Full Stack
Same industry, three very different working days.
Frontend
Open role- You own
- Everything the user sees and touches — screens, forms, interactions, responsiveness.
- Main tech
- HTML · CSS · JavaScript · TypeScript · React · Next.js · Tailwind
- Pick this if
- You want visual feedback within seconds of writing a line of code.
Fresher range₹3 – 6 LPA
Backend
Open role- You own
- Logic, APIs, authentication, payments, data storage, performance and security.
- Main tech
- Node.js / Python / Java · Express · Django · Spring Boot · PostgreSQL · Redis
- Pick this if
- You would rather design a clean data model than argue about button colour.
Fresher range₹3.5 – 7 LPA
Full Stack
This role- You own
- The whole feature — screen, API, database and deployment. Most common first job in India.
- Main tech
- One frontend framework + one backend framework + SQL + Git + Docker
- Pick this if
- You want to ship complete things alone and freelance on the side.
Fresher range₹4 – 8 LPA
All three write code every day. The difference is which problems you are paid to care about.
Stack choice
Which stack should you learn?
MERN vs Django vs Spring Boot — pick one and go deep, not three shallow.
| Aspect | MERN | Django (+ React) | Spring Boot (+ React) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Language | JavaScript everywhere — one language for frontend and backend | Python for the server, JavaScript for the UI | Java for the server, JavaScript for the UI |
| What it is | MongoDB · Express · React · Node.js | A batteries-included Python framework: admin panel, ORM and auth out of the box | The enterprise Java framework: strict structure, huge ecosystem |
| Best for | Startups, freelance work, MVPs, real-time apps | Data-heavy apps, dashboards, anything that later needs ML | Banking, insurance, large service companies, big internal systems |
| Learning curve | Easiest start, messiest freedom — you assemble everything yourself | Gentle and opinionated; you get a working app fastest | Steepest; verbose but extremely structured |
| Jobs in India | Startups, agencies, product companies, most freelance work | Growing fast, strong overlap with data and AI roles | Largest volume of campus and service-company hiring (TCS, Infosys, Wipro) |
| Watch out for | Total freedom means you must impose structure yourself | Smaller startup job pool than MERN in some cities | Verbose; slowest route to your first working screen |
